Coming to Toronto for ETS surgery
Endoscopic Thoracic Sympathectomy for patients across Canada

Dr. Irshad regularly treats patients who travel from outside Ontario for Endoscopic Thoracic Sympathectomy (ETS) — the keyhole surgery that stops excessive sweating of the hands and face. Because ETS is a day-surgery procedure, most out-of-province patients can travel to the Greater Toronto Area, have their surgery, and return home within a couple of days. Here’s how it works.

Patients travel from across Canada

Surgery takes place in the Greater Toronto Area (Ontario). We welcome referrals from every other province and territory — highlighted below.

1. Referral & consultation — done virtually

You don’t need to travel for your first visit. Your family doctor sends a referral, and Dr. Irshad’s team arranges a phone or video consultation to review your symptoms, confirm you’re a good candidate for ETS, and answer your questions. Pre-operative paperwork is handled remotely.

2. Arrive the night before

Surgery is usually scheduled early in the day, so out-of-province patients travel to the Greater Toronto Area the night before and stay in a nearby hotel. This makes sure you arrive rested and on time, with no risk of travel delays affecting your surgery.

3. Stay 24 hours after surgery

ETS is a day surgery, but for your safety you should remain in the Greater Toronto Area for 24 hours after your operation before flying or making a long drive home. This allows the team to confirm you’ve recovered well from the anaesthetic and surgery before you travel.

Your trip at a glance

A short, well-coordinated visit

Day before: travel to the GTA and check in to a nearby hotel. Surgery day: ETS at Brampton Civic Hospital, then back to your hotel to rest — sweating in the treated areas usually stops immediately. Next 24 hours: stay close by; once cleared, you’re free to travel home.

Our team helps coordinate your consultation, pre-operative assessment, and surgery date so your time away from home is as short and stress-free as possible.
